Motivation Proclamation…

First let me say that I’ve thought about starting up a “blog” for a long time. I did have a livejournal back in the day but I guess those are a thing of the past now since no one really uses that anymore. Everyone has switched to facebook for social networking. Personally, I wish I never stopped using livejournal. I quit livejournal over a period of time, steadily updating less and less until it came to a complete halt. Similarly my myspace keeps going unchecked for more prolonged amounts of time every time I do feel the need to actually check it. My current recess must be at least a month now.

I will admit that livejournal did have it’s drawbacks. As Brittany so delicately put it, “Livejournal was most definitely a way for people to rant through metaphors and song lyrics because they did not have the guts to say it aloud…” Even so, I do wish everyone else still used livejournal in the way that everyone uses facebook now. I just feel that livejournal was far superior to so many different degrees. Social networking sites like livejournal, myspace, and facebook all have a expiration date, though. Facebook’s days are numbered…let me tell you. Regardless of that, I guess livejournal, or blogging, just seems so much more personalized to me and far less petty. In my opinion, blogging actually requires a certain level of creativity and inspiration. It forces you to exhibit your inner artist, to actually articulate how you feel. It also doesn’t hurt that the act of thinking and writing and verbalizing your thoughts is just so much more beneficial to your brain and intellect. Maybe it’s the philosophy degree in me but let’s just say this is just much more my style.

Honestly I think the reason that I hadn’t created one of these sooner is that I simply lacked the motivation to do so. I feel like that’s a pretty persistent problem in my life. I’m always seeming to lack the motive to get different things done. These can range from trivial tasks that I’ve wanted to do like finish a video game I’ve put like 40 hours into and quit 3 hours before the end, to really important things such as getting a new job and applying, and hopefully getting accepted into graduate school. This could be why my plan to go straight into grad school turned into a 2 year hiatus. Not that this much appreciated break is necessarily a bad thing, but I need to make sure I start to finish getting what I came for, whether that be a PH.D. in psychology, a M.B.A., a certificate in human resources, or any number of possibilities. I know that I can and will overcome any adversities that come my way and will do and become whatever I set my mind to, but this motivational A.D.D. has definitely changed the pace of my life. I’m pleased with myself that I at least overcame this unmotivational habit to finally start this blog.

Overall, I don’t really have many friends with blogs, besides my lovely girlfriend, Brittany, and I am doing this more for myself than anyone else, nevertheless I do still wish I had more friends using such a cool implemention of the Internet. It’s just such a great way of expression as well as a cool way to reminisce about the past years down the road. Now I don’t know how often I will really be updating this thing, due to my whole typically unmotivated, or lazy, personality, but I hope I will be updating it more often then not, regardless if anyone is really reading it. I’ve taken the first step at least. Although the lack of Internet is also going to be a slight setback, but we will see. Anyway, IMO expression and motivation are contagious, so start a blog, innovate, accentuate, be who you are, create and enjoy yourself. This is life.
